About the project

ReferenceGuides is a curated catalog of educational and scientific resources: verified links, reference works and primary sources, with the option of an expert consultation.

Mission

Navigate sources, not retellings

The core task is to shorten the path from a question to a document you can cite. That is why every link in the catalog carries a line about what is there and what it is useful for.

The catalog covers 8 sections: science and education, resources for preschoolers, pupils and students, world resources, the formal, natural and applied sciences, reference works for the exact sciences, and arts and culture. In addition, we run expert consultations, language lessons, event listings with tickets and a culture news feed.

The portal is growing into a reference hub and learning platform: today it is a verified catalog of sources, expert consultations and language lessons on Zoom; learning materials and courses in other subjects are ahead.

Principles

Four catalog rules

Links and annotations only

We do not copy other people's reference works or republish their texts: every entry leads to the official source.

Verifiability

Every entry says what the source is useful for, so you can judge it yourself.

No middlemen in the data

We do not alter reference values or standards: the first stop is the primary source.

Primary sources and reference works โ†’

Open to additions

Anyone can suggest a link or flag an outdated entry.

Primary sources and reference works

A primary source is the original document: a standard, specification, article or official dataset. A secondary reference is a systematised digest for navigation.

Both types are labelled and explained in the catalog: find your topic in a reference work first, then confirm it against the primary source.

Site language

The site is available in five languages: Russian, English, Armenian, French and German. The language switcher is in the header of every page.
